Where is the best place to buy a pre-owned Omega in the UK?

The five routes to a second-hand Omega in the UK, what each gives you in warranty and legal rights, and the Omega checks that apply whichever you choose.

By Kay Atkinson, Watch60's watch specialist · 16 min read · Updated October 2026

There is no single best place to buy a pre-owned Omega in the UK. The right route depends on what matters most to you: a written warranty, the strongest legal rights, the widest choice, or a watch you can see before you pay. The five routes are Omega boutiques and authorised retailers, UK pre-owned dealers, Chrono24, auction houses and private sellers. Each gives a different mix of protection, and the Omega-specific checks at the end apply to all of them.

A pre-owned watch is one that has already been sold to a customer at least once; the trade uses the word in place of “second-hand”. This guide is general information, not legal advice.

What is the best place to buy a pre-owned Omega in the UK?

It depends on whether you put warranty, legal rights or choice first. A UK dealer selling to you as a trader gives you Consumer Rights Act protection and usually its own warranty. Chrono24 offers a large choice with an escrow payment. Auctions and private sales can work, but give you fewer rights. The table sets the routes side by side.

Route What you are buying Warranty Your rights in the UK Source
Omega boutique or authorised retailer New watches; some retailers also sell second-hand stock Omega’s 5-year International Warranty on new watches; the retailer’s own terms on second-hand Full trader rights; 14 days to cancel if bought online or by phone Omega FAQ, 2026; CCR 2013, reg. 30
UK pre-owned dealer Second-hand watches, sometimes unworn The dealer’s own warranty, if offered; any remaining Omega warranty depends on the card Full trader rights; 14 days to cancel if bought at a distance CRA 2015, ss. 9–11, 19, 22; CCR 2013, reg. 30
Chrono24 Listings from dealers and private sellers in many countries Set by the seller Payment held in escrow up to 14 days (dealers) or 7 days (private sellers); UK trader rights only if the seller is a UK trader Chrono24, 2024
Auction house Lots sold to the highest bidder, plus buyer’s premium Rarely more than the house’s conditions of sale At a public auction you can attend in person, most Consumer Rights Act goods rights do not apply to second-hand goods CRA 2015, s. 2(5)
Private seller One person selling their own watch None, unless the original card has time left The watch must match its description; no right to reject or cancel Sale of Goods Act 1979, s. 13

If you want to see and handle the watch first, a shop or an auction viewing is the natural choice. If you want to compare dozens of examples of one reference, a marketplace gives you that. Both can end well, as long as the checks below are done.

Can you buy a pre-owned Omega from an Omega boutique?

Omega boutiques and authorised retailers sell new watches, and some UK retailers also run pre-owned departments with Omega stock. We found no Omega-run certified pre-owned programme in the UK, so a second-hand Omega from a retailer carries the retailer’s own warranty, not a new Omega one. Ask for its terms in writing.

Omega’s own advice is to buy only from an OMEGA Boutique or an authorised retailer. It says watches from unauthorised sources might be damaged or counterfeited and may not qualify for warranty cover (Omega, 2026). That advice is aimed at new watches, but it explains why the warranty card matters so much on a second-hand one.

The difference between appointed retailers and independent dealers is covered in our guide to independent versus authorised dealers.

What do UK pre-owned dealers offer?

A UK dealer is a trader, so the watch must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (sections 9 to 11). You have 30 days to reject a faulty watch (section 22), and a fault that shows in the first six months is presumed to have been there on delivery (section 19). Most dealers add their own warranty.

Buying online or by phone from a UK trader also gives you a cancellation period that ends 14 days after you receive the watch (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 30). Buying in the shop does not, unless the dealer offers it.

Dealer warranties differ in length, in who carries out repairs and in what they exclude. Compare them the way you would compare any warranty; our guide on how watch warranties work lists the questions to ask.

How do UK sellers’ warranties on a pre-owned Omega compare?

They range from two years in writing to nothing at all. Large UK retailers and specialist dealers publish their own terms; marketplaces, auction houses and private sellers mostly do not. The table shows what each says on its own pages.

Seller Warranty on pre-owned stock Conditions the seller states Source
Watches of Switzerland (UK) “A minimum of two years” on each pre-owned watch Each watch has a five-point inspection and a water resistance test; the seller says most are reconditioned and serviced by the brands before sale Watches of Switzerland, pre-owned page, 2026
Goldsmiths Two years on all pre-owned watches The pre-owned collection is only in selected showrooms Goldsmiths, pre-owned buying guide, 2026
Watchfinder & Co. 24 months on the movement and internal mechanics Excludes cosmetic damage, water damage from improper use and damage from unauthorised service work Watchscanning, 2026 (Watchfinder’s own pages refused automated access)
Chrono24 seller Set by each seller in the listing Chrono24 Certified listings add an authenticity guarantee, which is not a mechanical warranty Chrono24, 2024
Auction house Usually none beyond the conditions of sale Read the condition report and the sale’s terms House’s own conditions
Private seller None Any Omega warranty left on the card, if Omega accepts it for you Omega FAQ, 2026

Two questions separate one dealer warranty from another: who does the repair (the dealer’s workshop or an Omega service centre), and what voids it. A warranty only helps while the business is trading, so it sits on top of your legal rights against a UK trader, not in place of them. Watches of Switzerland and Goldsmiths are both part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which also runs Mappin & Webb (Goldsmiths, 2026); ask the branch you buy from for its terms in writing.

Is it safe to buy a pre-owned Omega on Chrono24?

It can be, if the whole sale stays on the platform. Chrono24 is a marketplace, not a dealer. Its Trusted Checkout holds your payment until you confirm you are happy: up to 14 days with professional dealers and 7 days with private sellers, according to Chrono24’s April 2024 press release. Many sellers are abroad.

Whether you have UK consumer rights depends on who the seller is and where they trade. A watch sent from outside the UK can also bring import VAT and duty. Our guide to how Chrono24’s escrow works covers both, and the certification options Chrono24 offers.

Should you buy an Omega at auction or from a private seller?

Both are possible, but you give up most of the legal protection a dealer sale carries. At a public auction that individuals can attend in person, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 largely does not treat you as a consumer for second-hand goods (section 2(5)). A private seller must sell a watch that matches its description, and little more.

At auction, the final cost is the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium and VAT on the premium. Read the house’s conditions of sale and condition report, and ask what the specialists checked. Our guide to buying at a UK auction explains how the charges add up.

A private sale is goods sold “by description”: the watch must correspond with that description (Sale of Goods Act 1979, section 13). There is no 30-day right to reject and no cancellation period. Pay in a way you can trace, see the watch in person if you can, and read our comparison of buying from a private seller or dealer first.

Does the Omega warranty transfer to a second owner?

Omega’s customer service FAQ does not say. It says all new OMEGA watches carry a 5-year International Warranty, and that the warranty is only valid if the certificate is dated, fully and correctly completed and stamped by an authorised retailer (Omega, 2026). If remaining cover matters to your purchase, ask an Omega boutique to confirm it for that serial number before you pay.

The five-year term applies to watches bought from 1 July 2018; before that, Omega’s warranty was two years (Deployant, 2018). So a watch with a 2017 card has no Omega warranty left.

Omega’s warranty covers material and manufacturing defects present at delivery. It excludes the battery’s life, normal wear and ageing, damage from accidents, misuse or negligence, and any watch handled by an unauthorised person, for example for a battery change, service or repair (Omega, 2026). A watch serviced outside Omega’s network may therefore have lost what was left of its cover.

After a service at an Omega authorised service centre, Omega gives a 24-month warranty on that service (Omega, 2026). A recent Omega service invoice is one of the stronger papers a pre-owned watch can come with.

How much Omega warranty is left on the card?

Count forward from the date on the card: two years for a watch first sold before 1 July 2018, five years from that date on (Deployant, 2018). Then subtract the time that has already passed. The examples below are illustrative, not real watches, and assume the card is genuine, completed and stamped, and that nobody outside Omega’s network has opened the case.

Illustrative date on the paper Omega term Cover ends Left on 30 October 2026
Warranty card dated 14 May 2017 2 years 14 May 2019 None
Warranty card dated 3 September 2018 5 years 3 September 2023 None
Warranty card dated 20 August 2022 5 years 20 August 2027 About 10 months
Warranty card dated 1 March 2025 5 years 1 March 2030 About 3 years and 4 months
Omega service invoice dated 10 January 2025 24 months on the service 10 January 2027 About 2 months and 10 days

Sources: Deployant, 3 November 2018; OMEGA, customer service FAQ. Checked 30 October 2026.

The last row matters more than it looks. A watch with an expired card but a recent Omega service invoice still has Omega’s 24-month cover on that service (Omega, 2026). A dealer’s warranty runs separately from both, starting on the day you buy.

Remember the open question from the section above: Omega’s FAQ does not say whether its warranty passes to a second owner. Treat any time left on the card as a possible extra, and ask an Omega boutique to confirm it for the serial number before it affects what you agree to pay.

Which Omega generation are you buying?

Check the reference number, because Omega has changed the movement inside its most familiar models while keeping the name. Two examples show how far apart watches with the same name can be. The Omega brand guide lists more of the collections and their changes.

Model What changed When Source
Speedmaster Moonwatch Calibre 1861 replaced by calibre 3861, a hand-wound Master Chronometer tested under METAS, resistant to 15,000 gauss, with 50 hours of power reserve Announced January 2021 SJX, 5 January 2021

The generation tells you which movement a watchmaker will service, whether there are Master Chronometer results to look up, and which warranty term applied when new. A listing that says only “Speedmaster Professional” or “Seamaster 300” is not enough: ask for the full reference and match it to Omega’s product page.

What should you check on any pre-owned Omega?

Match the serial and reference numbers on the watch to its card and any service invoices, check the papers are genuine, look up a Master Chronometer certificate if the watch has one, and search the serial on a stolen-watch register. Then have the watch checked by a watchmaker if the seller offers no warranty.

How should you pay for a pre-owned Omega?

In a way that leaves you a route back if the watch is not as described. A credit card gives a legal claim against the card provider, a debit card a card-scheme process, and a bank transfer is hard to reverse unless it was a scam.

Payment method What protects you Limits to know Source
Credit card, paid to the seller directly Section 75: the card provider is jointly liable with the seller for misrepresentation or breach of contract Only for a single item with a cash price over £100 and up to £30,000; not debit or charge cards; paying through an agent can weaken the claim Consumer Credit Act 1974, s. 75(3); Which?, 2026

If a dealer asks you to pay a company with a different name from the one on the invoice, ask why before you pay: Which? says the Section 75 claim is safest when you pay the seller itself (Which?, 2026).

What changes if the seller is abroad or has closed?

Two situations change the picture. A seller outside the UK may bring import charges and weaker UK rights. A dealer that stops trading takes its own warranty with it, though not Omega’s or your card provider’s obligations.

Buying from abroad. For goods sent from outside the UK valued at more than £135, you pay import VAT to the delivery company before it hands over the parcel, and customs duty can apply on the price plus postage, packaging and insurance; the rate depends on the type of goods and where they were made (GOV.UK, 2026). The courier usually holds the parcel for about three weeks and returns it to the sender if the bill is not paid (GOV.UK, 2026). Check the Trade Tariff for the commodity code rather than relying on a figure from the seller; our guide to import duty and VAT on watches walks through the calculation.

Carrying it home yourself. If you buy an Omega on holiday and bring it into Great Britain, the allowance for goods other than alcohol and tobacco is £390, and if you go over it you pay tax and duty on the total value of the goods, not just the amount above the allowance (GOV.UK, 2026). Declare it, online before you travel or at the border.

If the dealer closes. A dealer warranty is a promise from that business, so it ends with the business. Omega’s own warranty, if any is left and Omega accepts it, depends on the card, not the dealer. If you paid by credit card and the price was within the Section 75 range, a claim for a watch that was not as described can go to the card provider instead (Consumer Credit Act 1974, s. 75). Keep the listing, the invoice and every message.

Frequently asked questions

Does Omega have a certified pre-owned programme in the UK?

We found no Omega-run certified pre-owned programme for UK buyers. Some UK retailers sell second-hand Omega watches under their own warranty. Ask who gives the warranty and for how long.

How long is the Omega warranty?

Omega says all new OMEGA watches have a 5-year International Warranty (Omega FAQ, 2026). It applies to watches bought from 1 July 2018; earlier watches had two years (Deployant, 2018). Check the date on the card.

Can I claim on the Omega warranty if I bought the watch second-hand?

Omega’s FAQ does not say whether the warranty passes to a later owner. It does say the certificate must be dated, completed and stamped by an authorised retailer. Ask an Omega boutique to confirm cover for the serial number before you buy.

What voids an Omega warranty?

Omega excludes damage from accidents, misuse, lack of care or negligence, normal wear and ageing, and any watch handled by an unauthorised person, for example for a service, repair or battery change (Omega FAQ, 2026).

How often should an Omega be serviced?

Omega recommends a full service every 5 to 8 years and a water resistance check every year (Omega FAQ, 2026). Ask the seller when the watch was last serviced and by whom.

Do I get 14 days to return a pre-owned Omega bought online?

From a UK trader selling at a distance, yes: the cancellation period ends 14 days after you receive the watch (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 30). A private seller or a public auction does not give you this right.

Is an auction a safe way to buy an Omega?

It can be, but your rights are narrower. At a public auction you can attend in person, most Consumer Rights Act goods rights do not apply to second-hand lots (CRA 2015, section 2(5)). Read the conditions of sale and condition report before you bid.

How can I tell when an older Omega was made?

Omega’s online Extract from the Archives gives the production date, without inspecting the watch (Watchonista, 2021). For a watch at least 30 years old, Omega’s Heritage team can inspect it and issue a Certificate of Authenticity (Worn & Wound, 2019).

Can I check a Master Chronometer online?

Yes. Omega says owners can view their watch’s test results by entering its certificate number online (Omega, 2026). The number is on the card that comes with the watch.

Do I pay import VAT on an Omega sent from abroad?

For goods valued at more than £135 sent from outside the UK, yes: the delivery company collects import VAT, and customs duty may apply depending on the goods and where they were made (GOV.UK, 2026).

This page is general information, not legal advice. Watch60 is independent and has no commercial relationship with Omega or any seller named here.
