Where is the best place to buy a Tudor in the UK: new, grey or pre-owned?

New from an official retailer, new from an independent dealer, or second-hand: what each route means for the Tudor guarantee, your legal rights and servicing.

By Kay Atkinson, Watch60's watch specialist · 14 min read · Updated October 2026

The best place to buy a Tudor in the UK depends on what you want from the purchase. An Official Tudor Retailer sells new watches with Tudor’s guarantee filled in at the point of sale. A grey market dealer sells new watches outside Tudor’s network, on its own terms. A pre-owned dealer, marketplace or private seller sells watches that have had an owner already. Each route changes the guarantee you get, your legal rights and what you should check.

An Official Tudor Retailer is a shop appointed by Tudor to sell its new watches. This guide is general information, not legal advice.

Where is the best place to buy a Tudor in the UK?

There is no one answer: it depends on whether a full manufacturer guarantee, a particular reference or a second-hand watch matters most to you. Buying new from an official retailer gives you the full guarantee from the date of sale. Grey market and pre-owned sellers usually give their own warranty instead. The table compares the three.

Route What you buy Guarantee Your rights in the UK Source
Official Tudor Retailer New watches Tudor’s five-year guarantee, with the card completed at purchase Full trader rights; 14 days to cancel if bought online or by phone SJX, 2019; Tudor, 2026; CCR 2013, reg. 30
Grey market dealer New or unworn watches from outside Tudor’s network The dealer’s own warranty; Tudor’s guarantee depends on how the watch was first sold Full trader rights if the dealer is a UK trader Tudor, 2026; CRA 2015
Pre-owned dealer Second-hand watches The dealer’s own warranty, plus any Tudor guarantee left on the card Full trader rights if the dealer is a UK trader SJX, 2019; CRA 2015
Private seller One person’s own watch Any Tudor guarantee left on the card The watch must match its description Sale of Goods Act 1979, s. 13

If you want a specific current reference with every year of cover, start with official retailers. If you are open to an earlier model or a discontinued one, the pre-owned market is where most of them are.

What do you get buying new from an official Tudor retailer?

A new watch with Tudor’s five-year guarantee, which starts on the date of sale shown on the card. Tudor’s guarantee page says the watch must be sold by an Official TUDOR Retailer and the guarantee card completed at purchase (Tudor, 2026). You also have full UK consumer rights against the retailer, as a trader.

In the UK, Watches of Switzerland says it operates dedicated Tudor boutiques (Watches of Switzerland, 2026). If you are unsure whether a shop is appointed, ask it to confirm in writing that it is an Official Tudor Retailer.

Macro of small gears and a ratchet wheel inside a movement, the part a Tudor guarantee covers wherever you buy in the UK

Buying online or by phone from a UK retailer gives you a cancellation period that ends 14 days after you receive the watch (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 30). Buying in a shop gives you no automatic right to change your mind, though the rights for faulty goods still apply. Our guide to your rights buying a watch online sets them out.

What is a grey market Tudor?

A grey market watch is a genuine new watch sold by a dealer that the brand has not appointed. The watch is real; what changes is the paperwork and the guarantee. Tudor’s guarantee terms tie cover to a sale by an Official Tudor Retailer (Tudor, 2026), so ask the dealer whether the card was stamped by an official retailer, and on what date.

A grey market dealer in the UK is still a trader, so the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to the sale. Many give their own warranty to replace or add to Tudor’s. Read who services the watch under that warranty, and what happens if the dealer stops trading.

For how parallel imports work in the UK and the trade-offs in detail, see grey market versus authorised dealer.

What should you know before buying a pre-owned Tudor?

Check the guarantee card’s date first, because it tells you how much of Tudor’s cover is left. Then match the serial and reference numbers on the watch to the card, ask for service paperwork, and confirm which movement is inside. We found no Tudor-run certified pre-owned programme in the UK; Rolex’s certified programme covers Rolex watches only.

Movements. Tudor introduced its first in-house movement, calibre MT5621, in the North Flag in 2015 (Wikipedia, Tudor Watches). Black Bay and Pelagos models made before the in-house calibres arrived in 2016 and 2017 can have a bought-in movement, while later versions of the same family have Tudor’s own (Wikipedia, Tudor Watches). Two watches with the same model name can therefore differ inside. The Tudor brand guide lists the collections and their changes.

Where to buy. UK retailers including Watches of Switzerland list pre-owned Tudor stock alongside new (Watches of Switzerland, 2026). Independent dealers, marketplaces and auction houses sell them too. The legal position follows the seller: a UK trader owes you Consumer Rights Act rights, a private seller does not.

Papers. Ask which items come with the watch and whether they are originals; our page on what a full set includes explains what each piece proves. Before you pay, run the serial through a stolen-watch register search. The questions to ask a seller cover the rest.

Which Tudor movement is in the watch you are looking at?

Read the reference number, then match it to the movement. Tudor has moved most of its range from bought-in calibres to its own over the past decade, and the change often happened within a model name. The table lists the changes reported for the dive and sports models most often sold second-hand.

Checked 30 October 2026.

Tudor’s own movements are made by Kenissi, a movement company founded in 2016 to produce calibres for Tudor and for other brands; Chanel took a 20% minority stake in 2018, and Tudor’s manufacture in Le Locle, connected to Kenissi, was inaugurated in 2023 (Monochrome, 2026). Monochrome lists Breitling, TAG Heuer, Norqain and Bell & Ross among the brands Kenissi supplies or has supplied, so a Kenissi-type calibre can turn up in a watch that is not a Tudor.

What this means for a second-hand buyer is practical. An ETA-based Black Bay and an MT5602 Black Bay can look almost the same in a listing photo, but they differ in power reserve, thickness and the movement a watchmaker will be working on. If the listing gives only “Black Bay”, ask for the full reference from the card or the caseback.

How do UK pre-owned Tudor warranties compare?

Rolex’s Certified Pre-Owned programme does not include Tudor, so a second-hand Tudor’s warranty comes from the seller, plus anything left of Tudor’s own guarantee. UK sellers publish very different terms; the table sets out what each says on its own pages.

Seller Warranty on pre-owned stock What the seller states Source
Watches of Switzerland (UK) “A minimum of two years” A five-point watchmaker inspection, serial numbers cross-referenced with the brand’s information, and a water resistance test of glass, crown and caseback seals Watches of Switzerland, 2026
Goldsmiths Two years on all pre-owned watches Pre-owned stock only in selected showrooms Goldsmiths, 2026
Watchfinder & Co. 24 months on the movement and internal mechanics; 14-day money-back guarantee Excludes cosmetic damage, water damage from improper use and unauthorised service work Watchscanning, 2026
Marketplace seller Whatever the listing says Ask whether a Tudor guarantee card is included and its date Seller’s listing
Private seller None of its own Any Tudor guarantee left on the card Tudor, 2026

A dealer warranty is not the same as Tudor’s guarantee. It is a contract with the dealer, it lasts only as long as the dealer trades, and the dealer decides who repairs the watch under it. Ask who carries out warranty work and whether using that workshop affects any Tudor cover left on the card, given Tudor’s rule on third-party work (Tudor, 2026).

How long is the Tudor guarantee, and does it transfer?

Five years for watches sold from 1 January 2020. Watches sold between 1 July 2018 and 31 December 2019 had 42 months, and earlier watches two years (SJX Watches, 2019). A 2024 report says the guarantee needs no registration or periodic checks and is transferable (Daily Tribune, 2024). Confirm with an official retailer for the serial number you are buying.

Before 1 July 2018 Two years SJX Watches, 2019
1 July 2018 to 31 December 2019 42 months (two years plus an 18-month extension) SJX Watches, 2019
From 1 January 2020 Five years SJX Watches, 2019

Tudor’s guarantee page says that any work carried out by third parties invalidates the guarantee (Tudor, 2026). A watch serviced or adjusted outside Tudor’s network may have lost what was left, even if the card is dated recently. Ask the seller whether anyone has opened the watch. Our guide on how watch warranties work explains how a manufacturer guarantee sits alongside a dealer’s warranty.

How much Tudor guarantee is left?

Find the date the watch was first sold on the card, apply the term in force on that date, and count forward. The rows below are illustrative examples, not real watches, worked out as at 30 October 2026, and assume the card is genuine and stamped by an Official Tudor Retailer and that nobody outside Tudor’s network has worked on the watch.

Illustrative date of first sale Term that applied Guarantee ends Left on 30 October 2026
12 April 2017 Two years 12 April 2019 None
10 November 2019 42 months 10 May 2023 None
15 March 2022 Five years 15 March 2027 About 4 and a half months
2 June 2025 Five years 2 June 2030 About 3 years and 7 months

Source: SJX Watches, Tudor extends warranty on all watches to 5 years (18 December 2019). Checked 30 October 2026.

The second row is the one that catches buyers out. A watch sold in late 2019 sounds recent, but it fell under the 42-month term, not five years, so its cover has already run out (SJX Watches, 2019). A recent Tudor Service Card is separate from the original guarantee: it carries its own two-year guarantee on the service (Tudor, 2026).

How is a Tudor serviced?

Through Official Tudor Retailers and Tudor service centres. Tudor says that after a full service by an Official Tudor Retailer or Service Centre, the watch comes back with a Tudor Service Card carrying an international two-year guarantee (Tudor, 2026). The Tudor pages we could read did not give a service interval or UK prices.

A recent Service Card is useful paperwork on a pre-owned watch, because it shows who worked on it and when. Ask an official retailer for a written quote for your reference. Our watch servicing costs guide compares what the main brands publish.

How should you pay for a Tudor?

By a method that leaves you a claim if something goes wrong. For a watch bought from a business, a credit card is the strongest of the everyday options; a bank transfer is the hardest to reverse. The table sets out what each one gives you.

Payment Protection What to know Source
Credit card Section 75: the card provider is jointly liable with the seller for misrepresentation or breach of contract Single item with a cash price over £100 and up to £30,000; pay the seller directly, not an agent Consumer Credit Act 1974, s. 75(3); Which?, 2026

Debit card Chargeback through Visa or Mastercard A card-scheme process, not a legal right Which?, 2026
Bank transfer Reimbursement for authorised push payment scams on Faster Payments and CHAPS, up to £85,000, from 7 October 2024 For being tricked into paying a fraudster, not for a quality dispute with a genuine seller PSR, 25 September 2024

Watches of Switzerland says interest-free credit is not available in its airport and pre-owned showrooms (Watches of Switzerland, 2026), so if you plan to spread the cost, ask the seller which payment options apply to pre-owned stock before you choose the watch.

What changes if you buy a Tudor abroad or the seller closes?

Buying new from an Official Tudor Retailer abroad still means a card completed at the point of sale; ask that retailer to confirm in writing that the guarantee is honoured in the UK. What changes most is tax, and your rights against the seller. A seller that stops trading changes only its own warranty.

Buying in a shop abroad and flying home. Goods other than alcohol and tobacco brought into Great Britain have a £390 allowance; go over it and you pay tax and duty on the total value, not just the part above £390 (GOV.UK, 2026). Declare the watch online before you travel or at the border; undeclared goods can be seized.

Buying in Great Britain as a visitor, or for delivery abroad. Shops in Great Britain only sell tax-free if the goods are delivered straight to an address outside the UK. Northern Ireland is different: visitors who live outside Northern Ireland and the EU may get a VAT refund if the goods leave within three months (GOV.UK, 2026).

Having it posted from abroad. For goods valued at more than £135, the delivery company collects import VAT before delivery, and customs duty can apply on the price plus postage, packaging and insurance (GOV.UK, 2026). Our guide to import duty and VAT on watches explains how the bill is worked out.

If the dealer stops trading. Its warranty goes with it, but Tudor’s guarantee follows the card, and a Section 75 claim against your credit card provider does not depend on the dealer still existing (Consumer Credit Act 1974, s. 75). Keep the invoice, listing and messages.

Frequently asked questions

Is a grey market Tudor genuine?

A grey market watch is a genuine new watch sold by a dealer Tudor has not appointed. What differs is the guarantee: the dealer gives its own, and Tudor’s cover depends on how the watch was first sold.

Does the Tudor guarantee transfer to a new owner?

A 2024 report says the five-year guarantee is transferable and needs no registration (Daily Tribune, 2024). Tudor’s terms also require a sale by an Official Tudor Retailer with the card completed (Tudor, 2026). Check the card’s date and stamp.

How long is the Tudor guarantee?

Five years for watches sold from 1 January 2020; 42 months for watches sold from 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2019; two years before that (SJX Watches, 2019).

Does servicing outside Tudor void the guarantee?

Tudor’s guarantee page says work carried out by third parties invalidates the guarantee (Tudor, 2026). Ask the seller who has opened the watch.

Does Tudor have a certified pre-owned programme in the UK?

We found no Tudor-run certified pre-owned programme for UK buyers. Pre-owned Tudor watches from retailers and dealers carry the seller’s own warranty, plus any Tudor guarantee left on the card.

What guarantee comes with a Tudor service?

Tudor says a watch returned after a full service by an Official Tudor Retailer or Service Centre comes with a Tudor Service Card carrying an international two-year guarantee (Tudor, 2026).

Do all Tudor watches have in-house movements?

No. Tudor’s first in-house calibre, the MT5621, arrived in 2015, and some Black Bay and Pelagos models made before 2016 and 2017 use a bought-in movement (Wikipedia, Tudor Watches). Check the reference.

Can I return a Tudor bought online?

From a UK trader selling at a distance, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving the watch (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 30). Private sales carry no such right.

Which Tudor movement does a Black Bay have?

It depends on the reference. The first-generation ref. 79220 used an ETA 2824 with about 38 hours; from 2016 the ref. 79230 used Tudor’s MT5602 with 70 hours (SJX, 2016). Check the full reference before you buy.

Is a Tudor on Rolex’s Certified Pre-Owned programme?

No. Rolex’s programme covers Rolex watches only, so a pre-owned Tudor’s warranty comes from the seller plus any Tudor guarantee left on the card.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Watch60 is independent and has no commercial relationship with Tudor, Rolex or any seller named here.
